Welcome to the New Pentecost website.

New Pentecost is a program launched in 2005 by the Cardijn Lay Community (now Cardijn Community International) to promote the dream of Pope John XXIII that Vatican II should open the way to a New Pentecost in the Church.

Pope John XXIII

“O Holy Spirit, renew your wonders in this our day, as by a new Pentecost,” was the prayer for the Council proposed by Pope John.

Or as Joseph Cardijn, founder of the Young Christian Workers (YCW) movement, expressed it:

“The Council will be like a new Pentecost proclaiming the way of union and Peace to a world so scattered and it will open up the perspectives of Eternity going beyond the problems of time.”

Cardijn with lay auditors, Patrick Keegan and Bartolo Perez

New Pentecost was therefore conceived as a follow up to the successful CCI conference on Vatican II in the era of Globalisation held in Bangkok to mark the 40th anniversary of the opening of Vatican II in 1962.
